City of Asylum creates a thriving community for writers, readers, and neighbors by providing sanctuary to endangered literary writers, so that they can continue to write and their voices are not silenced. COA has hosted writers from China, Iran, Myanmar/Burma, Venezuela, and El Salvador.

On Wednesday, October 17th from 7-9pm in Nordy’s Place in the William Pitt Union, please join the International Week Committee in welcoming Tuhin Das from Bangladesh and Osama Alomar from Syria to the University of Pittsburgh's campus. Tuhin and Osama are the two current writers in residence at the City of Asylum, and both will be reading pieces of their work and then fielding your questions.

COA Pittsburgh is also the national headquarters for ICORN, the International Cities of Refuge Network based in Norway. COA works closely with ICORN in their common mission to provide shelter to writers and artists at risk, and to defend and advance freedom of expression.
