Part of Carnegie Mellon's 2011 'Faces of Migration' International Film Festival, CMU presents 'Dooman River'

Twelve-year-old Chang-ho lives in a small town in China along the frozen river that borders North Korea. Despite the constant presence of poverty and hardship in the community that the family calls home, people of the town have remained sympathetic toward the Korean refugees fleeing famine and misery. Chang-ho finds friendship with one of the young border-crosser who comes to the town scavenging food for his sibling. But he soon turns on his new friend as suspicions mount against the illegal immigrants. He finds himself in a quandary over his loyalties in an exquisitely detailed story of compassion and strife across an uneasy geopolitical border.

Korean food reception will be provided by Green Pepper prior to screening!
