In accordance with Carnegie Mellon's 2011 International Film Festival theme, 'Faces of Migration,' CMU presents 'The Arrivals,' on Opening Night.

Film Description: In a modest office somewhere in Paris sit Caroline and Colette. Caroline is young, impulsive and hot-tempered. Colette, older, is compassionate and impossibly disorganized. What do these women share in common? They are social workers who day in and day out find themselves sitting across from the 'arrivals,' the exhausted, wounded but obstinate families seeking asylum in France. The film captures the tense and explosive confrontation in which each 'arrival' defends his or her new place in the country. The carefully gleaned humor in its portrayal of the exasperating and at times moving migration process makes Les Arrivants a unique and disarmingly honest telling of the immigrant experience.
