In accordance with Carnegie Mellon's 2011 International Film Festival theme, 'Faces of Migration,' CMU presents 'Pink Saris'

Sampat Pal Devi is a foul-mouthed self-styled enforcer for the Gulabi Gang (Pink Gang), a group of women who team up to fight the common abuses - forced child marriages, the burning of widows, and the routine beating of women by parents and in-laws - in India's Uttar Pradesh State. She's a belligerent character who loses more battles than she wins and often finds herself to be the only one truly fighting. Her grit and heart keep her afloat on the sea of the challenges that have traditionally stifled the fight for women's rights in rural India.
