Part of Carnegie Mellon's 2011 'Faces of Migration' International Film Festival, CMU presents 'Cuban Shorts: The Daily Experience of Living'
Away from the influence of a capitalist market; undergoing 40 years of U.S. economic embargo; and still under the administration of a communist regime; Cubans live in an extreme and unique social situation known only to those who have visited the island. Despite of its isolated and fragile reality, Cuban culture remains vital. This vitality can be seen through the work of artists whose original expressions always interpret the 'human condition' at the center of their poetic imagination. Culture is also the space where a critical view of the world is debated in search of a renewed cultural identity. Following on this tradition, and looking to transcend cultural barriers, this selection of videos offers creativity and meaning to the daily experience of living.
