Yomidas Rekishikan is a full text database of the Yomiuri Shinbun, the largest newspaper in Japan, from the inaugural issue in 1874 to the present. All full-text articles from 1874 to 1989 are available from the shukusatsuban (reduced size edition) image database, and most of the articles are retrievable in full text except for a few articles with copyright issues. The database also includes the English edition, the Daily Yomiuri (Sept. 1989 to the present) as well as biographical information on 26,000 notable people. For those doing research on Japan, Yomidas Rekishikan can be a valuable resource, but as it was originally developed as an in-house tool for Yomiuri reporters, it is not particularly user friendly. Hiro Good will share search tips about the database and answer questions about conducting research and finding useful information.
Please note that during the fall term, this series will be held on Wednesdays. In spring term, it will return to its usual Thursday schedule. Everyone is welcome to attend.
