The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) currently is negotiating and implementing a number of Free Trade Agreements which will affect Vietnam. This study, commissioned by the European Union and the Government of Vietnam, assesses some potential impacts with an eye to Vietnam’s best negotiating strategy. Methodologies include using models of the global economy to estimate the potential effects of current and future agreements on Vietnam, using historical data over time to develop models to determine trade impact, and using country data and personal interviews with relevant parties to identify the industries and products most impacted by current and future FTAs.
