Dr. Bahi will discuss how women were key players in the uprising that launched the Arab spring. She argues that women may have sustained the Arab spring, but it remains to be seen if the Arab spring will sustain women.

Dr. Riham Bahi is currently an Assistant Professor at Cairo University in the Faculty of Economics and Political Science and a visiting Assistant Professor at the American University of Cairo. Dr. Bahi received her PhD in International and Public Affairs from Northeastern University in Boston. Dr. Bahi also serves as the Dialogue Coordinator at the Center for Civilization Studies and the Dialogue of Cultures. Her particular research interests include Islamic Feminism, the global and transnational aspects of political Islam and U.S. relations with the Muslim world. She was the academic coordinator for GSC’s Fulbright Hays Program to Egypt in 2010, and will serve in this capacity for Speaking the Culture of Egypt, the 2012 Fulbright Hays program for college students.
