ASIA OVER LUNCH LECTURE – Noon in 4130 Posvar. Please feel free to join us for this lecture – all are welcome to bring their lunch or a snack along if you wish and enjoy!
This lecture will discuss the impact of the current Asian art scene through the work of two leading forces in contemporary art. Ai Weiwei has been prominent in Chinese art and culture since the 1970s. His politically-charged work has garnered international attention and includes the “Bird’s Nest” stadium of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a highly-publicized arrest and imprisonment, earning him the nomination of “Most Powerful Artist” in 2011 by ArtReview. Takashi Murakami has been featured in TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People and GQ Japan’s Men of the Year. His work appears in the world's top museums and galleries, and his popularity and desire to create a bridge between Japan and the West make him a prolific sensation in the contemporary art market. Today’s artists from Asia are provocative, compelling, and gaining unprecedented recognition on a global scale.
