Director Keir Moreano's record of his father's experience as a volunteer doctor in Vietnam in 2003 as a journey of a professional who has come to question the difference he makes in the lives of his patients in the US, finding renewed passion in his calling after several weeks conducting surgeries and training staff in a hard-pressed hospital in Hue. "The film observes Dr. Moreano as he performs operations, counsels patients and laments the lack of basic diagnostic equipment, presenting a portrait not of a saint but of a temperamental man who has faced depression and is often bored by a specialty whose symptoms are - in the first world, at least, rarely life-threatening. In the deprivation of Vietnam, however, free of the safety blanket of the American medical establishment, Dr. Moreano rediscovers the rush of risk and with it a passion he has begun to question." (New York Times)

The film (74 minutes, in English and Vietnamese with English subtitles) will be followed by a Q&A session with 2011-2013 Peace Corps Volunteers Orrin Tiberi (Ecuador) and Adrienne Long (Mozambique) about public health and medical care in developing nations.

Free parking is available in the school's driveways and parking lots or on the surrounding streets. Winter weather cancellation notices will be posted on the Winchester Thurston School Hotline at (412)578-7534.
