The lecture will cover the recent developments in Ukraine and will discuss possible strategies of resolving the political and security crisis from the game theoretic perspective. We will discuss four editorials from VoxUkraine.org, a portal devoted to analysis of the events in Ukraine: (1) Imploding DNR/LNR: Is it good for Ukraine? (2) Can Ukraine play MAD with Russia? (3) Kyiv People's Republic: A threat to Ukraine, and (4) Ending the Russian-Ukrainian War. Imploding DNR/LNR address the question whether it is in the interest of Ukraine to support or undermine institution building by the insurgents. Can Ukraine play MAD with Russia points out that Ukraine should use the threat to blow up gas pipelines as an argument in negotiations. Kyiv People's Republic observes that the main weapon against the insurgents is successful reforms that increase well-being of Ukrainians and that these reforms are being sabotaged. Ending the Russian-Ukrainian war suggests that increasing salaries and pensions in the insurgent-controlled areas might be a more effective weapon than military operations.
