During her studies in the GSPIA PhD program, Dr. Jose was a researcher at the Ford Institute for Human Security through 2009. Her dissertation was "The Fog of Protection: Contested Meanings and Deliberate Civilian Deaths during Armed Conflict” and her field research includes areas such as Colombia, Botswana, Switzerland, and Uganda.

Dr. Jose will present on the following topics:
 Her work at the Ford Institute which included research on corporate social responsibility and children born of sexual violence.
 Her co-authored paper with fellow GSPIA alumna, Peace Medie (PhD’13), on civilian self-protection. It was recently accepted by the International Studies Review.
 Her recently published chapter on ambiguity in the civilian immunity norm. This work came out of her dissertation.
