
During her studies in the GSPIA PhD program, Dr. Jose was a researcher at the Ford Institute for Human Security through 2009. Her dissertation was "The Fog of Protection: Contested Meanings and Deliberate Civilian Deaths during Armed Conflict” and her field research includes areas such as Colombia, Botswana, Switzerland, and Uganda.

Her work at the Ford Institute which included research on corporate social responsibility and children born of sexual violence.
Her co-authored paper with fellow GSPIA alumna, Peace Medie (PhD’13), on civilian self-protection. It was recently accepted by the International Studies Review.
Her recently published chapter on ambiguity in the civilian immunity norm. This work came out of her dissertation.
