With the support of the Provost’s Integrative Social Science Research Initiative, we (an interdisciplinary collective of scholars, listed below) are planning a working conference on gender and violence for Thursday, March 17 & Friday, March 18, 2016. With this announcement, we invite applications from faculty, post-docs, and graduate students across campus. Our twin mandates are to set an agenda and develop an audience for a new generation of work on gender and violence. The conference will gather Pitt scholars, a number of leading scholars from outside of Pitt, and funders from NIJ, NIH, NSF, and the foundation community to collaborate on these goals.

The conference will present opportunities for workshopping works-in-progress for inclusion in this volume, and we especially welcome applications from those who would like to present works-in-progress. You could consider contributing something based on your recent work, an assessment of other needed research, intervention, and policy change related to gender and violence, or whatever else you envision. The idea is for the conference to present all participants with an opportunity to enrich their own work, as well as the conference and its products. We also welcome applications from those eager to participate as active discussants or scholars who would like to bring an intersectional lens to their violence research.

To apply, please send an email to sara.goodkind@pitt.edu with the following information:
1. Name, University title and affiliation, contact information
2. CV
3. Brief explanation of your interest in attending the conference, how you can contribute, and how you see it benefitting your scholarship
4. If you would like to present a work-in-progress, please include a title and brief abstract, description, or vision for this work.

Application deadline is January 15, 2016.
