Join the Asian Studies Center for an exciting opportunity to view North Korean films rarely shown to the American public.

The second day of the North Korean Film Festival will begin promptly at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 19 in Conference Room A at the University Club. Professor Seung-hwan Shin of Pitt's East Asian Language and Literature department will begin with an introduction, followed by a screening of The Flower Girl (1972, 120 minutes). Widely considered to be North Korea's most famous film, The Flower Girl additionally saw extensive screenings in mainland China during the Cultural Revolution, seeing great success in both its cinematic and stage versions. After a Q&A session and coffee break, Dr. Shu-Jiang Lu, Haihui Zhang, and Hong-Guang Jia who all experienced the Cultural Revolution, will participate in a round table discussion moderated by Professor Shin.

The evening will conclude with a screening of Fate of Kum Hui and Un Hui (1974, 96 minutes) with a Q&A session to follow.

The films will be presented in Korean with English subtitles.
