Film Screening: “We Carried Your Secrets”
“We Carried Your Secrets” is a film that chronicles the story of a unique and ground breaking form of theatrical performance called “Theatre of Witness.” It reflects on the very personal and inspirational stories of 7 people as they come to terms with their own legacy and that of their fathers, men who were all badly affected by over thirty years of conflict in Northern Ireland. A viewing of the film will be followed by a Skype discussion with one of the participants in the Theatre of Witness project.

Putin’s Kiss focuses on the young, charismatic Masha, a 19-year-old spokeswoman for Nashi, a government-friendly Russian youth organization that promotes strong nationalistic ideals. Since she was fifteen, Masha was highly-involved in Nashi and the organization’s aim to rid Russia of its “enemies.” Through her involvement and loyalty, Masha received tons of benefits from Nashi and was frequently noted as “the girl who kissed Putin.” However, as Masha grows and begins to befriend critical journalists, her beliefs are challenged.

Snow
The main One Book One Community event for this year will be the Pittsburgh premier of Snow with writer/director Isaac Ergas and a panel discussion on the Role of Film in Public Health.
Snow is a short, live-action film based on the true story of Dr. John Snow, the father of epidemiology. The panel discussion will include:

A documentary on the transformation of Mikhail Khodorkovsky - from a perfect socialist to a perfect capitalist and finally, in a Siberian prison, becoming a perfect martyr. Khodorkovky - the richest Russian, challenges President Putin. A fight of the titans begins. Putin warns him.
