Victor Uribe-Uran, Associate Professor of History and Law, and Chair, Department of History, Florida International University, will be giving a talk in the Department of History. All students and faculty are welcome to the event.
Stephen P. Heyneman received his PhD in comparative education from the University of Chicago in 1976. He served the World Bank for 22 years. Between 1976 and 1984 he helped research education quality and design policies to support educational effectiveness. Between 1984 and 1989 he was in charge of external training for senior officials worldwide in education policy. And between 1989 and 1998, he was responsible for education policy and lending strategy, first for the Middle East and North Africa and later for the 27 countries of Europe and Central Asia.

Abdellah is a young gay man navigating the sexual, racial and political climate of Morocco. Growing up in a large family in a working-class neighborhood, Abdellah is caught between a distant father, an authoritarian mother, an older brother whom he adores and a handful of predatory older men, in a society that denies his homosexuality.
Salvation Army, the directorial debut for Abdellah Taïa – an acclaimed Moroccan and Arab writer – is adapted from his novel of the same name.

The overall purpose of the conference is to examine the notion of convergence as it becomes increasingly prominent in discussions within the Department of Defense and the Department of State, as well as the Department of Homeland Security. In recent years, the notion of threat convergence has become central to much of the national security dialogue in the United States, providing the focus for congressional hearings, an initiative by the Fund for Peace, and the theme of many academic articles.
Brazil Today is a one-credit (Pitt)/ three-unit (CMU) mini course, consisting of 14 hours of classes over a weekend, with a major paper assignment to be completed for credit. This course is created for undergraduate and graduate students. However, K-12 educators, business and community members are welcome to attend all or sections of the course for free. The course will open with two keynote lectures on Friday evening on an overview of the issues. This will be followed by instructional lectures on Saturday on the various themes by experts in the fields.
