Professor Michael Goodhart, Global Studies Director, will be giving the Vanka Lecture at St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale, PA. St. Nicholas Church is home to the amazing murals by Maxo Vanka. One of those murals, "Injustice," appears on the cover of Dr. Goodhart's new book Injustice: Political Theory for the Real World. The murals, created in two phases in 1937 and 1941, are outstanding examples of the social realist style popular at the time. They speak to themes of faith and family, the immigrant experience in America, social justice and injustice, and the horrors of war.

The Japan-US relationship is often described as the most important diplomatic and cultural relationship in the Asia Pacific region. One of the keys to the long alliance and friendship has been the development of frank and open discussions on a wide range of policy issues; those discussions presume well-informed experts on both sides who are familiar with the issues and assumptions of their partners. The New Voices from Japan (NVJ) program addresses a pressing need to develop a new generation who can actively participate in the dialogues.
