Texas-based artist Lydia Bodnar-Balahutrak has created a series of multimedia pieces to commemorate the Holodomor genocide in Ukraine. Join the Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies as Tetyana Shlikhar, doctoral candidate in the Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures, hosts an artist talk with Bodnar-Balahutrak. Images of her work will be available for view on the REEES website until the end of the year.

The next Charlemos event will focus on "International Organizations and Democracy Promotion in Latin America." Scott Morgenstern (University of Pittsburgh) will moderate a discussion between Jennifer McCoy (Georgia State University) and Stefano Palestini (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile). The discussion will be based on Thomas Legler and Jennifer McCoy's, "Games People Play: International Regime and the Venezuelan Political Crisis," presented at LASA 2016 and Stefano Palestini's, "Regional Organizations and the Politics of Sanctions Against Undemocratic Behaviour in the Americas," published in International Political Science Review, 2020.

This course provides students with an opportunity to think about the most recent wave of brutal police violence in the United States in a global perspective. Expanding on our summer series, students will focus on topics such as racial capitalism, colonialism and settler colonialism, and transnational trends in militarized policing and police violence. Students who complete the course will appreciate how policing in the USA shapes and is shaped by global processes.
The pop-up course will kick off on September 15!
Stammtisch is the German Club's weekly conversation table for speaks of all levels from absolute beginners to fluent speakers. Here we practice our language skills while also learning about German culture through fun games and activities!
