Biography: 

John Stoner currently serves as the Executive Director of Academic Affairs at the University Center for International Studies. He is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History, where he teaches on U.S. foreign relations, the history of the 1960s, the Cold War, and modern South Africa. His research focuses on the projection of American power into the world, particularly on the continent of Africa. He is currently completing a monograph on American labor’s foreign policy in Cold War Africa and researching another on American propaganda in Cold War Africa.

Stoner received his PhD from Columbia University in 2001. He has been a Fulbright Scholar, a Summer Fellow of the Institute of African Studies at Columbia University, and an Eisenhower World Affairs Institute Fellow.

Biography: 

Mark Weixel is the Director of Informatics for the University Center for International Studies.  In that capacity, he plans and coordinates the use of information technologies in helping to deliver the Plan for Pitt's directive to "Embrace the World."  This takes many forms: liaising with Pitt IT to leverage core resources, overseeing end-user desktop computing, planning web application architecture, and data collection and reporting.

A member of the UCIS Senior Team, Mark can be contacted for help on technology and data issues.

Degrees: 

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Literature and a Master's of Science in Information Science, both from the University of Pittsburgh.
