The baritone, Georgi Genov, was born in Plovdiv on 20 August 1923. He started singing as an artist in the Odeon Theater between 1942-44 and then as a soloist with the State Radio Choir from 1944-46. After graduating from the State Academy of Music as a student of Elena Angelova Orukin in 1950, he continued in the apprentice program there between 1950-52.
In 1946 he became a member of the Sofia National Opera. His debut was singing Prince Igor in 1947. With the Sofia National Opera he toured Paris, Prague, Budapest, Belgrade in addition to performances in Belgium, Germany, Austria and Spain.
Major roles in his career included Belcore, Tonio, Germond, Rigoletto, Papagano, Valentin, Rodrigo and Tomsky in Pique Dame.
