The tenor, Todor Kostov, was born in Varna on 24 August 1928. He graduated in 1952 from the Secondary Music School in Varna as a student of Viara Zdraveva. A year after his graduation he was engaged by the Varna Opera.
After additional studies in Rome with L. Ricci in the roles of Radames and Cavaradossi he debuted in the role of Cavaradossi with the Varna Opera on March 13, 1953. In addition to regular appearances with the Sofia Opera and other opera companies in Bulgaria, he guest appeared in Roumania during 1956, Czechoslovakia 1957-61, USSR, Yugoslavia, Belgium and Prague.
Major roles in his career included Radames, Don Jose, Manrico, Don Carlos, Faust, Cavaradossi and Ricardo in Masked Ball.
