A public screening of a film by Liisa Roberts. Between 2000 and 2004, Finnish-American artist Liisa Roberts directed a project in Vyborg, a city located in the Russian-Finnish border. First Finnish, subsequently Soviet, and currently Russian, Vyborg is home to one of the great works of modernist architect Alvar Aalto: a municipal library built in 1933, when the city was under Finnish jurisdiction, and which was heavily damaged during World War II.

The Phenomenon of Solidarity commemorates the 30th anniversary of the founding of the movement and highlights formative moments in its history.

The talk is based on his most recent book, Popular Support for an Undemocratic Regime: The Changing Views of Russians (Cambridge University Press, 2011).
