Please ensure that the $10 registration fee per student is submitted to the African Studies Program by 2/1/19! Also be sure that all teachers accompanying the students submite their clearances and consent forms for photos and videos.Teachers will raise any questions and seek clarifications for things that are not clear. They will request visits to their schools by pitt faculty and students knowledgeable about Africa and the African Union to talk to the high school students and answer any questions
Paige Alderson and Joshua Kivuva will host a conference call meeting with high school teachers from pittsburgh and surrounding school districts to talk Model African Union. They will present the agenda items for this year's Model and provide guidance on expectations. Teachers will be given the timeline for registration for participation in the Model.

The Model African Union is a simulation of the proceedings of the African Union, amplified by pre-conference study at home institutions and Embassy briefings in Washington, D.C. at Howard University in collaboration with the African Union Mission in Washington, D.C. and Member State Embassies sponsors this annual simulation of the African Union, the regional organization of African states, in the form of a Model African Union Conference.
It is with great pleasure that the African Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh is hosting the 9th Annual High School Model African Union (MAU) Conference. The simulation of the African Union, brings together high school students to take on the roles of African leaders working to tackle issues affecting or influencing the continent.
Model African Union 2019 Conference is here! More that 200 High School students converged at the University of Pittsburgh to hold conference and simulation of the African Union, debating and discussing issues facing African States while proposing resolutions.
Final preparation and review of your country's position, policies and aspirations leading up to the MAU Conference.
Begin drafting a 1-2 page policy brief on behalf of your country in response to agenda items 1 and 2 that you will use when working with other Member States in drafting the final conference resolution in April.
A general presentation on the importance of helping students to begin to expand their research from their specific country to looking at neighboring countries to determine how climate change and displacement affects the region as a whole. Teachers will discuss among each other best practices in preparing their students to be competent and knowledgeable abouit the regions and the continent as a whole
Teachers will be briefed about what they should do to prepare their students for the Model. Students should continue researching country specific information while focusing on the agenda topics of climate change and displacement. Teachers will guide students and help themdDetermine where their assigend country stands on the issues listed in the agenda, any challenges they face, and suggestions to overcoming these obstacles. They will also be provided with a checklist of everything they need to submit for registration including clearances and phot consent forms etc
