The World History Center will host Julia Adeney Thomas (University of Norte Dame) on Friday, December 6 for a workshop "Humanists Working with Scientists: An Interdisciplinary or Multidisciplinary Anthropocene?" and talk “Frameworks for History’s Future: Climate Change and the Anthropocene.” RSVP HERE! Han Junghyun, the Language of Adolf and Albert

Join us for a talk by Han Junghyun, a fiction writer from South Korea, as she discusses contemporary Korean literature and her role in shaping it. Her debut short novel, "The Language of Adolf and Albert", won the Dong-a Ilbo New Writer's Contest in 2015. Since then, she has received several prestigious awards.

Sessions include presentations, activities and teacher-led strategies for curricular development.

Gina Kim is a Postdoctoral Associate in Japanese Studies, specializing in Trans-Asian art history and visual culture, with a primary research focus on Manchukuo. After the Manchuria Incident in 1932, the imperial presence of Japan in Northeast China became immensely visible. Spanned 14 years until August 1945, Manchukuo marks the climax of Japan’s political, militaristic, and economic expansion amidst the era of the New Order.

With participants representing 27 countries, the conference features 38 panels on topics ranging from the use of nuclear weapons to gender warmaking to the strengths and weaknesses of international law to the role of traditional and new media in contemporary international security environment. This conference will feature several panels on security problems in and around Latin America, Africa, Russia and Eastern Europe, and Asia.

Time and History Between China, Russia, and North Korea: Ed Pulford

Dr. Pulford's research focuses on experiences of socialism and empire in borderland and minority regions in Eurasia, including along the China-Russia border, the focus of his first two books. His most recent project examines the experiences of cross-border ‘Chinese’ minorities in Southeast, Central and Northeast Asia. In many global locations, crossing state borders involves a sense of temporal shift.
