On June 23, 2016 the UK citizens expressed in a referendum their wish for their country to leave the European Union. This has caused immediate negative reactions of the markets, initiated many constitutional debates within the UK, but also opened numerous legal issues for the European Union. As this is the first time ever that a country leaves the Union, everyone is on an unknown terrain, from the question what is the appropriate procedure to follow to the issues of the protection of the acquired rights of the UK citizens in the EU and vice versa.
