Assaf Gavron is an acclaimed Israeli writer of five novels (Ice, Moving, Almost Dead, Hydromania and The Hilltop); a collection of short stories (Sex in the Cemetery); and a non-fiction collection of Jerusalem falafel-joint reviews (Eating Standing Up). His fiction was translated into 11 languages, and has been adapted for the stage in Israel's national theatre. Mr. Gavron is the recipient of several awards including the Bernstein Prize for The Hilltop, the Israeli Prime Minister's Creative Award for Authors, the Buch Fur die Stadt in Germany and the Prix Courrier International in France.

A weekend mini course at CMU open to any full-time undergraduate or graduate student at Pitt. The course introduces students from all academic majors, both undergraduate and graduate, to the socio-political significance and artistic merits of film. Through screenings of acclaimed, international features and documentaries, through class discussions, and through workshops with award-winning filmmakers, students gain a basic foundation for film analysis.

Cody Corliss is a war crimes prosecutor at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) where he is part of trial team prosecuting Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, and violations of the laws and customs of war. Mr. Corliss is an expert on international truth commissions and his work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, and legal journals throughout the United States.
