Gianpaolo Baiocchi discusses his new book, We, the Sovereign: Radical Futures, which draws from his work with social movements from Latin America, Southern Europe, and other parts of the world to examine how popular struggles are creating new forms of democratic participation aimed at making political parties and state institutions instruments of social emancipations.

This event is co-sponsored by the School of Social Work, University Center for International Studies, European Studies and Global Studies.

The Trump Administration has urged a renewed focus on this relationship but, as Dr. Aiden Warren, Senior Lecturer and Researcher in RMIT's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, will illustrate, the alliance also faces increased debate pertaining to a security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, and within the US about the costs of global leadership.
