The High School Model European Union is an annual event for area high school students. The goal of the Model EU is to give high school students a chance to learn about the workings of the European Union through a hands-on simulation. Playing the roles of presidents and prime ministers, students spend a day engaged in intense negotiations over conflicting issues about the EU. The objective is to simulate a specific European Council meeting that focuses on recent current events impacting the EU. Model EU enhances students’ understanding of classroom learning and gives them a real sense of the challenges involved in the decision-making process of the European Union.

As national teams join to compete in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, join the Global Studies Center to discuss the intersection of politics, global branding, human rights, and activism, and how they converge upon the most popular sport in the world. Panelists will discuss the historical context of sports and capitalism, the reconfiguration of urban spaces, and the -isms and phobias that exist within the sporting community. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Rob Ruck, Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh.

This 4:30 to 5:30 pm webinar (free and open to anyone who registers here) will focus on professions relating to and/or affected by U.S.-Russian relations and will highlight how graduates of Northeast U.S. institutions have navigated the start to their careers in the geopolitically troubled times of the past few years and of the Cold War’s escalation in the early 1980s. Our panel will feature recent graduates as well as the Honorable Roman Popadiuk, first U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, who entered the Foreign Service in 1981 after completing his advanced degrees at the CUNY Graduate Center.
