Join us for a talk by Holocaust Scholar and Historian Dr. Michael Berenbaum.

Kristallnacht, or the “Night of Broken Glass,” was a pogrom that occurred November 9-10, 1938. It was the first organized, government-sanctioned act of violence against the Jews in Germany. It marks the start of the systematic violence against Jews during the Holocaust. Each year, the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh holds an event to commemorate this important turning point in history. These programs are generously supported by Edgar Snyder.

Dr. Michael Berenbaum is a writer, lecturer, and teacher consulting in the conceptual development of museums and the development of historical films. He is director of the Sigi Ziering Institute: Exploring the Ethical and Religious Implications of the Holocaust at the American Jewish University (formerly the University of Judaism) where he is also a Distinguished Professor of Jewish Studies.

The goal of the Model EU is to give high school students a chance to learn about the workings of the European Union through a hands-on simulation. Playing the roles of presidents and prime ministers, students spend a day engaged in intense negotiations over conflicting issues about the EU. The objective is to simulate a specific European Council meeting that focuses on recent current events impacting the EU. Model EU enhances students’ understanding of classroom learning and gives them a real sense of the challenges involved in the decision-making process of the European Union.
