Available for both undergraduates and graduate students, Boren Awards support the study of less-commonly-taught languages through study abroad. Applicants must demonstrate how their proposal and future goals are connected to a broad understanding of national security, and award winners must agree to a one-year government service requirement. The deadline for undergraduate applications in December 2nd.

This workshop is the first in a series of six workshops focusing on different global issues and how educators can use literature to further explore the topic. This workshop will focus on Africa and the topic of human security. Dr. Yolanda Covington-Ward, Assistant Professor in Africana Studies will discuss the novel The House at Sugar Beach by Helene Cooper.
Participants will receive a copy of the novel once they have registered. Act 48-credit will be given at the end of the series

Francisco Zamora Loboch is one of the most mature and talented of the independence era Equato-Guinean writers. He is a poet, novelist, musician, essayist and sports writer, and was part of the original group of intellectuals exiled by the first Nguema dictatorship in 1971. He was also a participant in the many attempts by his compatriots in exile, to organize political resistance to the dictatorship from Spain.
