Patricia Guy, a Diplomat in Residence for the State Department, will visit the University of Pittsburgh to talk about the State Department’s internship program, and will provide information and answer questions about careers and job possibilities with the Department of state.

Gap year before grad schoo? Need to gain "real world" experience? Learn about working overseas after graduation! This workshop features real life experiences from Pitt alumni teaching in China, Chile, Japan and France. Learn how to prepare for ESL experiences at Pitt and where to look for jobs.

Many graduate programs want students to gain "real world" experience before enrolling in their respective programs. This session will help students plan out how and where to work or volunteer abroad. Recent Pitt alumni with experience working in India, El Salvador, Ecuador and Cape Verde will share their stories and how best connect with their organizations, and Pitt staff will have resources on hand to help you to secure overseas experience. Jonnett Maurer, the Peace Corp field based recruiter will also be there to answer questions.

Are you interested in African Studies and African Affairs? PANAF GSPU and African Studies are sponsoring a lunch for those interested in learning more about Africa and the Diaspora. The lunch will feature a guest panel for discussion on African Affairs, lunch, and an African Jewelry Sale. Stop by the Ballroom and check it out!

Please join us in celebration of Africa and the African culture! Not only will you learn about the beauty and complexity of the continent, but you will get the chance to meet and talk to people who have lived in or visited Africa. At this festival, there will be a panel of students discussing current hot topics in Africa; African art and fashion exhibit; a slideshow of pictures students have taken while traveling in Africa with short captions or stories or brief overviews; and, African food.

All students with an interest in international studies are welcome to join us for a free workshop with the international studies certificate program advisors and Alyson Kavalukas, Pitt's Internship Coordinator, to learn about how to find international studies internships and volunteer opportunities both locally in Pittsburgh, in the United States, and overseas, through Pitt and on your own!

ASC and the Japanese language program at Pitt are offering a series of Japanese language tables on campus for students of Japanese language. The second session of the series is “Learning to be a Japanese Interpreter!” This session is designed for all level of Japanese students-- 1st, 2nd and 3rd year (+up). You will be helping to communicate a native Japanese speaker and a Native English speaker. In this session:
• You will be playing a role of an interpreter between two persons.
• You will be interpreting Japanese to English, also English to Japanese.
