CERIS Undergraduate Reserch Symposium

The CERIS Undergraduate Research Symposium is designed to provide undergraduate students at CERIS member institutions with research experience and an opportunity to develop presentation skills, as well as to provide recognition of excellent student scholarship. Students will present their research with others from 25 colleges and universities in the tri-state area on topics related to Islamic studies within the arts, sciences, humanities, social sciences and professional disciplines.

This year, as she escapes from her mother's nagging and father's sickness, Felicia is desperate to return to the normalcy of her son. Confronted with one problem after another while trying to catch a plane ride home, she struggles to find out firsthand what family is all about.

Sudan: Risks and Challenges of a Post-Referendum State

After five decades of conflict in the largest Afro-Arab country, on January 9, 2011 the Southern Sudanese elected to secede from the North. This lecture will discuss the developmental and political challenges of the two new nation states and the regional consequences. In addition, the issues of Arab security and the role in the Arab-Israeli conflict will be addressed.
