Celebrate Africa 2022

The Center for African Studies hosted the inaugural Celebrate Africa Conference and Festival event from Friday, September 16 to Saturday, September 17, 2022.

On Friday, scholars and leaders from the African continent and Pitt faculty presented seminars, round tables, an alumni webinar, and a documentary screening.

The keynote address was given by renowned pan-African historian Dr. Paul Tiyambe Zeleza! You can read his lecture notes here. We enjoyed plenty of ceremonial drumming before and after!

On Saturday, our festival brought students, faculty, and staff together with the vibrant diaspora community of Pittsburgh. We gathered outside the Posvar Patio to celebrate the many cultures of Africa through music & dance, food, artisans, and children's activities. It was a successful day of networking with African organizations and businesses!
