Faculty Advisory Board

The EUCE/ESC Faculty Advisory Board is chaired by Professor Alberta Sbragia and comprised of University of Pittsburgh faculty selected for their regular contributions to the activities of the Center. The twenty-nine current members include faculty from eleven humanities and social science departments, six professional schools, as well as the University Library System and University administration.

The affiliated faculty of the EUCE/ESC are faculty from the various schools, departments, and campuses of the University of Pittsburgh.

Center Associates

Center Associates are formally appointed regional and international scholars and practitioners who come to the University of Pittsburgh to conduct research.

Understanding the hopes and problems of Western Europe and the European Union in the twenty-first century requires an awareness of the achievements and disasters that Europe has undergone in earlier centuries. It also requires an appreciation of how identities and cultures were established, how collective memory has developed, and how history has shaped current political and economic issues in European integration. Contemporary Europe can be best understood by exploring how history, culture, law, politics, and economics intersect. Two centers at the University of Pittsburgh encourage such interdisciplinary thinking – the European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE) and European Studies Center (ESC) forming the EUCE/ESC.

Ronald Linden                                                                                                                               

Professor Ronald Linden was appointed Director of the European Union Center of Excellence and European Studies Center on January 1, 2011.

Dr. Linden is a professor of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh and recieved his Ph.D. from Princeton University. Professor Linden has researched and published numerous works on EU accession, international relations of Southeast Europe, Turkish accession to the EU, and post-communist Europe. From 2009-2010, Dr. Linden was awarded a Transatlantic Academy Fellowship from the German Marshall Fund, as a part of a four person senior team to explore the topic, "Turkey and Its Neighbors."
