The story of the Baghdadi Jews of Calcutta takes a trajectory very different from those of persecution and victimization we all have grown up watching movies about. The Jewish community of Calcutta was small but influential and prosperous, “a diaspora of hope.” Today just a handful of those Jews are left.
Virtual screening of Dwelling in Travelling, a documentary on Jewish Life in Calcutta, with Q&A with the director, Sobha Das Mollick, and Jael Silliman, author of Jewish Portraits, Indian Frames.

Join us for this workshop, which will provide K-5 educators with creative ways to incorporate interdisciplinary learning into their classroom through the story of the renowned Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Throughout our history, art and artists have resisted oppression, violence, injustice, and inequality. Some of the world’s most interesting art is on the streets and easily accessible to all. In this workshop we will discuss how protest art uses public space to engage in dialogue between the artist and the public. At an unprecedented moment in geopolitics, the work of public artists amplifies activism, resistance, and solidarity. Artists give context and vision to broad social movements, supporting those who have been marginalized and who need justice.
The Nationality Rooms Programs and the Indian Nationality Room Committee honors the culture and heritage of India and the 74th anniversary of its independence. India Day is a tribute to the entire Indian community, friends, volunteers, various Indian organizations, businesses, and restaurants for their unwavering support of this celebration and the Indian Nationality Room Scholarships.
