The Latin American Cultural Union hosts its first annual fundraiser for its Scholarship Program! Proceeds from event will assist with providing scholarship awards to qualified candidates in the Spring of 2013. Network, mingle, and enjoy a night of authentic Latin food, drinks, live music, salsa/bachata contest, prize giveaways, and lots more!The event will be housed out of an aesthetic art gallery located in the heart of Oakland in walking distance from campus. Cost to attend is $15.

Hari Kondabolu

Hari Kondabolu is a comic from New York who hasbeen on Jimmy Kimmel Live and performed on Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, John Oliver's New York Standup Show and the 2007 HBO Us Comedy Arts Festival. He currently writes for FX's Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. Kondabolu studied at the London School of Economics where he earned a Master's in Human Rights and wrote a dissertation entitled "Mexican Returnees as Internally Displaced People: An Argument for the Protection fo Economic Migrants Under the UN Guiding Principles of Internal Displacements."

African Festival

Please join us in celebration of Africa and the African culture! Not only will you learn about the beauty and complexity of the continent, but you will get the chance to meet and talk to people who have lived in or visited Africa. At this festival, there will be a panel of students discussing current hot topics in Africa; African art and fashion exhibit; a slideshow of pictures students have taken while traveling in Africa with short captions or stories or brief overviews; and, African food.

A graduate of GSPIA and REES, Emilia Zankina is currently an Assistant Professor in Political Science at the American University in Bulgaria. Her areas of expertise include elite theory, democratization, East European transitions, and public policy analysis. Her most recent research focuses on populism, gender and political representation, and civil service reform in Eastern Europe.
