On June 15th 2020, the EU officially reopened its inner borders, effectively lifting the travel restrictions put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19. The Schengen Agreement’s ‘Free Movement of Persons’ —considered as one of the most meaningful, and also the most popular accomplishments ever of European integration— was then back in force.

2020 Euro Challenge

The Euro Challenge is a national competition for cash prizes where 9th and 10th grade high school students test their knowledge and understanding of the European economy and the Euro, the currency shared by many of the 28 countries of the European Union. The European Studies Center is proud to host the Western Pennsylvania regional competition for Euro Challenge at the University of Pittsburgh.

Participation can be in-person or remote. The top team(s) from the regional competition will advance to the national competition in New York City, scheduled for April 28, 2020.

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) and the Study Abroad Office (SAO) in collaboration with the Pittsburgh-based global service-learning organization Amizade propose to bring together community organizers and nonprofit leaders with University of Pittsburgh faculty and students for a public forum themed “Water Is Life." The thematic concentration on water reflects the contemporary significance of the topic, which invites inquiry from a regional and global perspective. Water is at the core of human and environmental existence.
