Nearly half of all American adults--90 million people--have difficulty understanding and using health information, have a higher rate of hospitalization, use emergency services, and cost billions of dollars in avoidable health care expenditure (Institute of Medicine Report, Health Literacy: A Prescription to End Confusion). To break this cycle of limited health literacy, it is important to target the K-12 population.
