Inspired by the European Year of Rail, which shines a light on one of the most sustainable, innovative, and safest modes of transportation, and acknowledging the challenges we have all faced during the pandemic in traveling and forging new connections, the inaugural MEET EU Short Film Competition for U.S. Youth asks young people to create a short film (documentary or non-documentary) responding to the theme “Transatlantic Connections”. The theme is intentionally broad and entrants are encouraged to be creative in how they interpret it.

After a successful virtual edition in 2020, the Romanian Film Festival in Seattle brings you back to Wonderland, this time with exclusively new film productions from Romania and Europe, showcasing the creative spirit and resilience of young, or more established directors. Moreover, the festival expands with a new branch in Detroit and a partnership with Arizona Romanian Film Festival. More details will be shared soon.

Free, Virtual Cultural Celebration: Join us in a week-long celebration and share the virtual Pittsburgh POLISHFEST '21 with your family, friends and neighbors, across the street, across the country or across the world. Celebrate a variety of Polish, Lithuanian and Carpatho-Rusyn traditions, including folk music, folk dance, culinary demonstrations with recipes, historical, religious, and folk-art offerings. These presentations were created to remember something old, discover something new, keeping alive our traditions alive in an ever-changing world.

The Festival of the Egg is a family-oriented event welcoming the coming of Spring in many ethnic traditions. Celebrate ethnic traditions from India, Romania, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland. Celebrate with Easter Egg Decorating, Spring Traditions, Easter basket folklore, palm weaving, Easter customs, spring festival of colors, virtual market place and much more!

Learn from Maryann Sivak, president of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, about the history of the Carpatho-Russyn community in Pittsburgh, followed by a Slavjane dance performance, hosted by Dean Polska and Alexis McCormick of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society

Join students and staff to learn greetings and other simple phrases in several (but not nearly all) languages of Russian, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia. You can participate in as many virtual language tables as you like, or focus on one or two.

Join the Russian Club of the University of Pittsburgh to learn about matryoshka dolls (nesting dolls). Children and the young at heart can paint or color their own nesting dolls with materials provided to the first 10 participants by the Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies.
