Ihsan Qazi

Dr. Qazi’s most recent research focuses on designing technologies and educational interventions for bridging the digital divides between developed and developing regions, which includes divides in connectivity, access, and affordability across served and underserved areas, gender, age, persons with disabilities, and digital literacy and skills.

Dr. Qazi has led several large-scale transdisciplinary projects on bridging digital divides with a focus on digital literacy, connectivity and access, and affordability.

His work has included designing evidence-based educational and technological interventions for countering fake news among low digital literacy populations, making the Web more affordable and inclusive for users in developing regions, illuminating the impacts of information controls and Internet censorship, and developing low-cost and privacy-preserving cloud infrastructure. His work on countering misinformation among low digital literacy populations has twice received the Facebook Integrity Foundational Research Award in both 2019 and 2020.

Biography

Dr. Qazi is an Associate Professor of Computer Science with the Department of Computer Sciences (SBASSE) and a Senior Research Fellow at the Mahbub ul Haq Research Centre (MHRC), both at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan.

He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 and his BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics from LUMS, Pakistan in 2005.

His award-winning work on countering misinformation among low digital literacy populations is particularly timely. Not only is his research impressive, but his mentorship of students with a focus on those from underserved communities has created a positive impact on the global learners, researchers, and practitioners of tomorrow.
