March is another busy month at CLAS; we hold our biannual Latin American Social and Public Policy (LASPP) Conference, March 28-30, host a CLAS Speaker Series event with Dr. Eduardo Gamarra discussing the annual survey on Hispanics/Latinos in the U.S. and Dr. Lorena Telles, our University Consortium for Afro Latin American Studies (UCALAS) Post-Doctoral Fellow, will teach a one-credit course on African & African-Descendant Women in the Americas, March 22-24.
This fall, the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Pittsburgh marks 60 years since its founding. We will joyously celebrate the occasion on Friday, October 11th, at the start of homecoming Weekend. The day will commence with an academic panel and conclude with a Gala event in the evening. We hope you
save the date to join us for what we know will be a memorable day.
We would also like to preview Liberato Kani’s visit to Pitt. The well-known Peruvian Quechua rap artist will have a demonstration at the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium on the evening of April 4th and a conversation with local rapper Frzy on Friday afternoon, April 5th. On March 26th, Pitt will host Alejandro Loayza Grisi, Director of the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize winning Quechua-language film Utama. Please read our newsletter for additional opportunities to engage
with our academic and community events.
