Who is Eligible?

Tenure or tenure-stream Pitt faculty.

Requirements/Intended Use of Funds

This grant is a subsidy paid directly to publisher to defray costs of publishing book(s) related to Japan by tenure or tenure-stream Pitt faculty. Preference will be given to 1) single-authored books, 2) followed by co-authored books, and 3) then edited books of essays and translations. In the case of 2) and 3), at least one of the authors, translators or editors must be an eligible member of the University of Pittsburgh faculty. It cannot be used by the author to pay for indexing or any other costs of preparing a manuscript for publication.

Requirements/Intended Use of Funds

To develop and strengthen faculty expertise on Europe and the states and societies of the European Union. Eligible professional activities include research or collaboration with a colleague, on-site field work or data acquisition, and archival research.

This grant covers air and ground transportation, meals, and lodging expenses for research projects based on a concrete and clearly defined agenda in Japanese studies OR exploratory Japan Studies Research based on welldefined research proposals.

Up to $5,000.00 for one year of research; up to $10,000.00 in any 2-year period.
