Funding
The Asian Studies Center offers grants for research and conference travel to faculty working with Asia. Information can be found here.
Furthermore, the Asian Studies Center is pleased to provide funding and support to faculty and student organizations who offer Asia-related programming on campus. To apply for funding, please fill out the Event Request Form (here) and return to Dr. James Cook (jacook@pitt.edu) and Kathryn Fortuno (ksf37@pitt.edu).
Events with a focus on Japan Studies may be eligible to receive funding from the Japan Endowments. The steps for requesting this funding are as follows:
- Faculty must submit an application here and upload (a) 1-2 page proposal describing the goals of the project and a rationale for the items requested (b) Itemized budget of expected project costs including the exact time period when funds will be needed.
- Fill out an Events Request Form as instructed above. This enables ASC to plan better, and let you know if there are any issues that need to be dealt with far in advance.
- You should receive notification from the Associate Director of ASC on both your funding and your request for help with the event. Please follow up with ASC if you don’t hear back within a reasonable amount of time!
- Funding received from these requests should be credited as "The Japan Iron and Steel Federation and Mitsubishi endowments at the University of Pittsburgh."
Before making your request, please review the Asian Studies Center events listing here. We prefer to support programming that does not overlap with existing events.
