2021 Asian Studies Center Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japanese Studies

The Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh (https://www.ucis.pitt.edu/asc/) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in Japanese Studies (January 1, 2021—December 31, 2021). We encourage applications from all disciplines in the humanities and the social sciences. The fellow will be expected to participate in teaching a one-semester undergraduate course, assist in co-organizing a conference/workshop, present one public lecture while in residence, and to actively participate in Center events during the fellowship year. The Center welcomes applications from around the world.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree from an accredited university in hand by December 31, 2020 but have earned it no earlier than January 1, 2016 to be considered for the 2021 fellowship year. Application materials must be received through the University of Pittsburgh Talent Center (here) by September 30, 2020.
The selection committee will evaluate applications on the basis of:
- The significance of the proposed research and its relevance to the theme of Global Asia.
- The contribution an applicant is likely to make to the Center and the University of Pittsburgh in their teaching, research, and academic community support.
Applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, unofficial transcript, one-page dissertation abstract, dissertation table of contents, a statement of up to 1,500 words describing the proposed research project during the fellowship year, and an article-length writing sample in English. Two letters of reference should be emailed under separate cover directly to the Center (Asia@pitt.edu). Your application will not be considered complete until all materials are received.
