The Alliance for Learning in World History is accepting applications for a Workshop for Educators to be held during the World History Association’s Annual Conference at the University of Pittsburgh. The two-day professional development workshop is sponsored by the Alliance for Learning in World History (ALWH) and the World History Center at the University of Pittsburgh. The Alliance will cover the conference registration fee, the cost of joining the WHA, and apartment-style dorm housing on the University of Pittsburgh campus for two nights.

Through experiential learning, high school students engage directly with global issues by assuming the role of world leaders and negotiating responses to timely topics.

Amidst rapid urbanization and massive emigration from rural areas in recent decades, the countryside has suffered from increasing neglect. Yet growing urban-rural polarization around the world today tells us that the countryside remains as relevant as ever. American politics and European politics are now utterly divided between urban and rural areas. Similarly, urban-rural inequality bears profound consequences for Chinese society and politics.

This conference will introduce many of the forces that have shaped Vietnam's modern development. Presenters will analyze topics such as the impact of French colonialism on Vietnam's history, Vietnamese war literature both in Vietnam and amongst the Vietnamese-American community, Vietnam's rise as an economic powerhouse and producer of consumer goods, and the impact of the Mekong River in Vietnam's history and modern relationship with China.

Be part of the first annual high school Asia Challenge simulation virtually at the University of Pittsburgh. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), comprised of Australia, Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Myanmar, Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand will meet in two sessions to address immediate and long-term crises affecting the partnership.
