Benedict Omwenga Kachietano

Benedict Omwenga Kachietano is the Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh for the year 2023/2024. He was born in Kenya, Nairobi County. He grew up in Kisii county famously known as ‘Enkaa ye ritoke’ meaning the home of bananas. He spent his early years of education in both Nairobi and Kisii counties.
He received his Bachelor of Education (With IT) degree with specialization in Swahili and Religious Studies from Maseno University, Kisumu County in the year 2018. He is a registered teacher in Kenya having taught Swahili, Religious Studies, and Computer Studies in various high schools in Kenya such as St. Paul’s Igonga and Riokindo High School.
As an FLTA for the year 2023/2024, Benedict is keen to assist in teaching Swahili and general African cultural perspectives at the University of Pittsburgh and taking part in community engagements. He is also determined to make Pitt community learn to speak Swahili and get to know more about the rich Kenyan culture and Africa in general. He also looks forward to furthering his education and continuing using the knowledge gained to uplift others and use culture and technology to make the universe one community sharing different rich cultures and languages.
