Research in Japan grant

Amount: 
up to $7000; up to $14000 in any 2-year period
Purpose of grant: 
This grant covers air and ground transportation, meals, and lodging expenses for research projects based on a concrete and clearly defined agenda in Japanese studies OR exploratory Japan Studies Research based on well-defined research proposals
Eligibility: 

Full-time and part-time tenure-stream, tenured and non tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers, adjunct faculty, and contract faculty) at all Schools, Departments, Centers, Institutes and Campuses of the University of Pittsburgh are eligible to submit proposals.
 
Faculty are eligible to apply for up to $10,000 every other year or up to $10,000 to be used over two years. Preference is given to projects that begin during the current fiscal year. Applicants are asked to use the U.S. Department of State per diem rates for their budgets. Lodging costs should be budgeted at the real cost of the lodging, up to the limit allowed by the U.S. Department of State. Other costs can be budgeted at the per diem rate for M&I. The selection committee reserves the right to award less than requested.

China and Chinese Studies Research Travel Grants

Amount: 
$1000-$2000
Purpose of grant: 
This grant supports faculty research focused on China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or the Chinese diaspora. For travel to present a paper at a conference, use China Studies Faculty Conference Travel Grant
Eligibility: 

This grant covers travel expenses, research expenses, and incidentals for research projects based on a concrete and clearly defined agenda in Chinese studies OR exploratory China Studies Research based on well-defined research proposals. Full-time and part-time tenure-stream, tenured and non tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers, adjunct faculty, and contract faculty) at all Schools, Departments, Centers, Institutes and Campuses of the University of Pittsburgh are eligible to submit proposals.

Faculty are eligible to apply for up to $2000 for one year of research. Preference is given to projects that begin during the current fiscal year.

Asian Studies Small Grants

Amount: 
$1000-$2000
Purpose of grant: 
For non-travel purposes, the Asian Studies Small Grants can now be used by any Asia-focused faculty. But for travel purposes, this grant will only fund research travel to study areas in Asia that are not China, Japan, or Korea.
Eligibility: 

Faculty are eligible to apply for up to $2000 for Asia-related activities. This grant can be used for non-travel programming and research for all areas of Asia, and for research and conference travel for study areas of Asia outside China, Korea, and Japan. Preference is given to projects that begin during the current fiscal year.  Full-time and part-time tenure-stream, tenured and non tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers, adjunct faculty, and contract faculty) at all Schools, Departments, Centers, Institutes and Campuses of the University of Pittsburgh are eligible to submit proposals.
