John Frechione, PhD (Pitt, Anthropology, 1981) joined the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) as Assistant Director for Communications in 1983. From 1987 to 2015, he was Associate Director and served as Acting Director in 1998. Dr. Frechione was a key member of the staff that contributed to the long-term growth and success of the Center. He continues to be an important member of the CLAS community, and maintains his interest and expertise in the ethnography, history, and ecology of lowland neotropical indigenous communities.
