Emicida

Famous Brazilian rapper, singer, songwriter, MC and intellectual Leandro Roque de Oliveira, better known by his stage name Emicida.  Emicida will visit Pitt to teach a one-credit course on Afro-Brazilian History, Music and Culture with in-person sessions on Wednesday and Thursday (September 25 & 26), culminating on Friday, September 27 with the screening of his Netflix’s documentary AmarElo, followed by a Q&A. Emicida is known for his impromptu rhymes, that made him one of the most respected rappers in Latin America. In 2020, he was awarded the Latin Grammy Award for Best Portuguese Language Rock or Alternative Album for his album AmarElo. AmarElo was also awarded the Album of the Year prize in the same year in Brazil.
