David B. Houston was an economics professor and political activist at the University of Pittsburgh for more than 40 years. Throughout his career, he directed his scholarly attention to issues of social justice, particularly as they related to Latin America. Dr. Houston was known as a dedicated teacher, mentor, and advocate, whose research and activism bridged the academic and public spheres. He passed away in 2008, but his commitment to equity and justice continues to inspire generations of students.
To honor his life and work, former students and colleagues created the David B. Houston Human Rights and Social Justice Fund. This fund supports awards to students whose academic interests and career plans focus on human rights and social justice, particularly in Latin America.
The Center for Latin American Studies invites students, especially at the graduate level, to apply for this scholarship award.
